Alternative/Learning Disorders High School Program

    Student Age Range

  • 14-19 years

    General Developmental/Instructional Level

  • Range of general functioning: borderline to superior spanning instructional levels at Grade 9 – Grade 12
  • Needs in domains of social skills development and academic preparation for college/post-secondary education
  • Depression, adjustment problems, and learning disorders

    Entrance Criteria

  • First or continuation public school program for students with inhibiting adjustment disorders, social/emotional fragility or specific learning disabilities
  • Intellectual functioning within the normal range
  • Needs can be met, and behavior managed, in mainstream setting with programming ratio of 1:3

    Specific Needs, Disabilities, Interventions & Programming Methods

  • Specific learning and mild behavioral or adjustment disorders; emotional vulnerabilities
  • Learning differences in academic and social skills
  • Language-based curriculum with individualized mainstreaming
  • Therapeutic milieu with clinical support services
  • Staff:student ratio of 1:3 to meet adjustment and instructional goals

    Exit Criteria

  • Adequate attention and self-control, social interaction skills, and instructional readiness for less restrictive environment
  • Graduation by age 19
